Honors

We spent a good part of this weekend cheering for Phil’s dad.  He was inducted into his school’s Hall of Honor for his years of service – teaching, coaching, and caring.  We went to the Friday night football game, and the girls went on the field with Grammy to accept a plaque.  Then we had a luncheon on Saturday to celebrate Tom and the other Honorees.

In spite of the fact that I was miserable with the flu, I gleaned the following gentle reminder: I want to be a teacher.  I know, its a little late, and I won’t actually ever do it, most likely.  And after years of growing more cynical and business minded in the accounting realm, working at a school would probably kill me.  But the atmosphere of caring, mentoring and just basically making a difference for kid after kid after kid is so tempting.  The network of change a teacher has is really limitless.  We were reminded of that, and the benefit of community through hearing about all the Honorees.

Its good for all of us, that there are people like Tom, and his co-honorees out there.  A big thanks to all you teachers out there – mine, my kids and anyone’s kids.  Go Teachers!

Just want to let you know although you may never teach in a classroom you taught a lot of people during your time at Deloitte. I was one of them and I was glad to have you as my teacher. 🙂

Thank goodness. I was really hoping someone would say that :). Thanks Jillian.
