The Hottest Spot North of Havana

Do you remember the feeling of going to your first concert?  The planning, the saving for the tickets, packing a lighter for the slow songs.  Ah, the joy of it all. 

I don’t know what one of your first concerts in high school was, but mine?  Terri and I saved up to go to Barry.  That’s right, Barry Manilow.  LIVE in concert.  We were the only people under 40, and the only people who weren’t scandalized by the fact that he wore red spandex, and humped the piano at the end.  While I can’t look back and remember why we thought we should spend several days wages to go to see him, but I have always had a resultant soft spot for the man. I am not ashamed to admit that in a karaoke bar I could probably perform most of his songs.

So this week, Andra came home and asked me to buy a song on iTunes.  The Copa.  Copa Cabana.  The Hottest Spot North of Havana. The Copa.  Copa Cabana. Music and Passion are always in fashion at the Copa. Dramatic pause. They Fell in Love.

We have spent a big fat bunch of time doing the merengue, and the cha cha and any other movements that can be done to Barry, and it reminds me that I still love the oldies.  Barry.  The Carpenters.  Abba.

They just don’t make them like they used to.
