Who is going to sit on your jury?

My neighbor had jury duty today, and she reminded me of the things they ask in jury selection. I have been a juror 3 times, and I always go when called, because I feel strongly that if all hell breaks loose in my life and I ever end up on trial (completely innocent of all charges of course) that I hope somebody like me shows up that day.  You know, someone smart, fair and able to make a decision.  So here is how my responses to the questions go:

>   Do you have a bumper sticker?  I don’t.
>   Have you ever been convicted?  Not that I know of.
>   Do you believe this criminal is guilty just because he is on trial for the crime he must have committed?  Probably.  But I can still be fair about it.
>   What radio do you listen to – and do you listen to talk radio?  Nothing and Not lately.  Really, lately I have become a CD listener, in a serial, single song sort of way.  Its pretty bad.  Its actually not like me, but nonetheless, here is my most recent list of compulsive, put in the CD and play the same song over and over and over again, until my kids say STOP! I can’t take it anymore songs:

It all started with Macy Grey, I Try.

Then, I moved on to the Love Actually CD – really, the whole thing, but especially the Maroon 5 Sweetest Goodbye/Sunday Morning piece.

Moved to Johnny Cash, Ring of Fire then moved to Johnny Cash Hurt.  (The girls humored me if I let them repeat  A Boy Named Sue for them – hey, I love anything Shel Silverstein, too).

Beth lent me Iris Dement, so I sang along to “I’ve got that old time religion in my heart” until the girls couldn’t take it anymore (check out her website jukebox and you will see why – she has a bit of a howling cat gargling sound but I really like it.  You will love it or go “AAAH!  Make her stop!”).

And then on to Five for Fighting’s new song “Freedom Never Cries” and finally,

Now it is all about the CSNY trio – Blackbird, Teach your Children Well and Carry On.

And if I was on jury duty selection, maybe by the time I finished explaining all that, they would be so concerned for my inability to select a consistent genre of music, that they wouldn’t pick me.  Decisive my foot.

Validate me, and tell me what song you can’t stop playing in the CD player (or the 8-Track, or ipod for that matter).

I was just thinking the other day that if I’m not careful, my mind is going to turn to mush from listening to E! on XMradio instead of NPR on my way into the office.Currently on the turntable (and probably contributing to my mushy head):Busting Up a Starbucks (my choice)Who Let the Dogs Out (Martin’s choice)You Can Call Me Al (Sophie’s choice)

I love how you went from jury duty to a run down of your favorite music. I think the prosecutor just said “enough lady, I don’t need all that.”Good list of tunes! Here are the songs for which I recently pushed repeat on my ipod shuffle: Dolly Parton – Travelin’ Through, Soul Asylum – Stand Up and Be Strong, and John Hiatt – Have a Little Faith in Me.Now a recommendation. About 5 or 10 years ago John Prine did a CD of romantic duets, including a couple with Iris Dement(also Lucinda Williams, Emmy Lou Harris, etc..). I can’t remember the name of the CD, but it couldn’t be hard to find.

Good catch on my segue, I have been trying to find a way to work my play list into a blog, so this was my chance.I will look for the John Prine, just to mix it up πŸ™‚

Jenine, it’s so funny that you’re writing about music and repeating songs. I recently added the below lines to my regular Outlook signatureRepeating on my iPod:”Love and Memories” – OARBefore OAR was The rolling Stones “It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll” and before that was Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars”I’m changing the signature just about weekly. Other current favorite bands are:Ray LaMontagneKeaneBen LeeAnna NalickCheck out the Grey’s Anatomy CD or the iMix song lists on iTunes for Grey’s Anatomy. Excellent stuff!

Funny, when I bought Macy Gray’s CD, I kept repeating “I Try” too. πŸ™‚

Funny I have this same problem with songs…right now it is anything by James Blunt, still hooked on the Blowers Daughter, and lately it has been the group Snow Patrol and the song Chasing Cars. Hope you are doing well…miss you!!

  7. Mostly Jenine says:

Oh yea, the Blowers Daughter was a regular for me too. I just hope that doesn’t mean you are obsessing on the ex…?
